Descent

Scroll-driven ocean journey

Descent — screenshot

One continuous long-scroll narrative: light fades, the palette darkens, a submersible descends and morphs into native life, and the deepest creatures drift past in a horizontal gallery — a single uninterrupted descent stitched from six set-pieces.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Six pinned/scrubbed set-pieces stitched into one continuous descent
  • A submersible that morphs into an anglerfish across the abyss boundary
  • Depth-anchored ambient life + an interactive bioluminescent cursor
  • Fully reduced-motion aware — every animation degrades gracefully

HOW IT’S BUILT

React 18 with GSAP ScrollTrigger and Lenis smooth scroll. Pinned and scrubbed sections, a self-drawing SVG trail, and a submersible that persists across a boundary and morphs into an anglerfish. Ambient life — marine snow, a fish school, jellyfish, a passing whale, bioluminescence, and an interactive glowing-plankton cursor — is depth-anchored to scroll progress, and every bit of it freezes under reduced motion.
