Matthew Kulka

Hey — I’m Matt. I’m a software engineer, and I got here in a slightly roundabout way: I started out in testing, and it permanently changed how I build things. I don’t just want to ship a feature — I want to actually know it works, and keeps working.

Frontend and full-stack are where I’m most at home, but honestly I’ll dig in anywhere from the database to the last pixel. I studied Computer Science and Math at Youngstown State, then did a full-stack bootcamp once I realized I wanted to build real products, not just reason about them on paper.

After school I spent a year as an SDET embedded in Meta’s engineering org (through Solvd), writing end-to-end tests for Facebook and Instagram across web and mobile. Working at that scale taught me a ton about what “correct” actually costs. From there I moved into product engineering at Drund — a vendor whose platform powers the online communities behind several major sports and athletics organizations. I owned the admin side of it: React, Next.js, TypeScript, a big design-system migration, and a whole lot of shipping.

These days I spend a lot of my own time on side projects — most of them are in my work. Building things end to end, exactly the way I want, is how I keep getting better.

What I’m looking for is pretty simple: a team that treats correctness as a feature and gives an engineer real room to own something. Frontend, full-stack, or SDET — I’m a generalist, and I like it that way.

OUTSIDE OF WORK

My faith is a big part of my life — I’m active in my church, including a missions trip to El Salvador where I got to spend time with local kids and schools.

Closer to home, I share a desk with a cat who is firmly convinced my headset is his seat. He’s usually somewhere in the frame when I’m building.
